ACUVUE ® OASYS™ CL Aims to Combat Dry Eye
Vision Monday, August 15.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--This month the Vistakon division of Johnson &
Johnson Eye Care launches its ACUVUE ® OASYS™ daily-wear contact lens with HYDRACLEAR™ PLUS, designed to increase eye comfort in dry, challenging environments such as computer use, smoke-filled rooms or airplane travel.
The lens is made of senofilcon A, a new silicone hydrogel material said to be 50 percent smoother than currently available silicon hydrogel CLs; it also features an improved HYDRACLEAR™ formulation that combines an oxygen-rich material with a moisture-rich wetting agent, according to Vistakon.
The ACUVUE ® OASYS™, the third entry in Vistakon's Ultra Comfort CL series, is said to block more than 96 percent of UVA rays and 100 percent of UVB rays.
The lens has been in development three years, and is "one of the most-tested products we have ever launched," Pat Cummings, OD, Vistakon's vice president of professional affairs, told VM.
Cummings added, "The message of this new lens is that there's been a huge improvement in silicone hydrogel technology. The OASYS™' smoothness both of the lens design and of the HYDRACLEAR™ PLUS technology."
